Poem #18

Why do you think I stopped loving you?
I never loved you to begin with.
I loved the pretty portrait you sold me, I loved
the lies you used like paint to cover my eyes,
I loved the way you made me feel at night,
I loved the sweet words that flew in my ears like birds.
Once your true self was revealed the fantasy was
shattered into a million pieces and the explosion
took away the love I had for someone you pretended to be.
