In the new and coming year
Maybe I’ll grow a beard,
Forget the books I hardly read
And try out the unleavened bread
At the dreary Catholic Church
Where Mary’s statue weeps,
I’ll drop some flowers in a bunch
And hope they do forget to sweep.
And even if forget they do
I’ll drop another saintlier one
And another with a holy clue
Before the break of dawn.
For the next fifty and two
Sundays in the soldiering year
I’ll worry about Jesus too
Just to show him that I care.

Goodly motives
Very nice. Thanks for posting it. Made me smile.
Thanks for posting this piece @poetrybar. I think each time I read it, I smile even though the picture weeps
