My Humbled Tale

I started out an egg
Without a care or burden
But the world to lean on
And if I broke, before a time
That was the sad end
Of a brief adventure.

I hatched into a form
For all I cared,
It was the wind I craved
And the world was larger
My feet was short and swift
And flight I ne’er knew I’d know.

Beneath my feet was freedom, laid
Until I had to feed and flee
At monsters that hunt my kind
They must have names, or else
I’ll have to mark them in my mind
And pay attention nonetheless.

The day I thought to fly,
I wasn’t given a chance to think
___Whoosh, and I had to go
A kite had stolen one of us
And fright paved the way for flight
A memory that I’ll likely ne’er forget

Till I knew of pain
The lessons of the gods
For my kind’s noble benefit
Left me wishing I was dead
But even after I survived
The scar kept the lesson safe.

It was time for another adventure
To find a mate and plan to further
Some wooing did the blatant trick
Four weeks on, I saw an oval thing
And when it softly-softly broke
I gladly shared my humbled tale.
