Unfettered Confessions

I must confess
I knew I had to leave you
At some point when life became
A still and quiet little pond

I must confess
The world grew smaller
Every time you cried out endlessly
And made me feel I never cared

I must confess
Four seasons are long gone
When I last knew I loved you
Carelessly as I ought to

I must confess
I knew another man
In a plain white silky shirt
And a khaki Jean that bore my name

I have a lot of confessions
But only you could please me
And make me smile on, everyday
Even when forgiveness shies away.

I must confess
I knew I had to leave you
At the point when life became
A still and quiet little pond.

Olutomi Akinsanya, currently living in Nigeria, has loved literature and art, reading African contemporary writers’ such as Wole Soyinka, Chinua Achebe and even Western greats like Shakespeare, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Khalil Gibran from an early age.  He became drawn to poetry because of its deeper underlining meanings and began writing in August of 2004.
