Out of my Night and Into Hers

She looked at me and sighed

“My love, you look so sad, come to me, let me comfort you.”

“But I am a man, I should be holding and comforting you, I replied helplessly.”

She caressed my cheek looking deep into my eyes and said:

“With you and I there is neither man nor woman, we are one, your pain is mine and our joy is one.”

Somehow she held me tighter and the dams broke, releasing the entire seasons rains all at once.

She entered into my darkness and slowly her light began to shine. My heart began to open much the way a flower responds to the first light of a new day.

She softly kissed my forehead and is was as if the refreshing dew of morning gently saturated my heat-worn heart. Gradually the vines of her love wrapped me in a warm defiance to the pain that tried to rapture me away.

She then led me along a winding path to her dark place, but it was very different from mine, it was illuminated with galaxies of stars and nebulae and did not feel like a dark place, instead it reminded me of childhood and a deep peace came over me.

She explained to me: “I have a dark place too you see, but mine is illuminated with the stars. Each star in each of those galaxies was born with each new expression of your love for me, and I thank you for each one my dear.”

She raised her arms skyward and spun ’round much like a little girl would dancing in a shower of falling leaves. “I love the stars you’ve given me.”

I could not reply, only look on in amazement. She took my hand and led me back to my darkness but now it was different, it now looked much like hers only brighter, with far more stars.

This experience with her taught me that even in deep darkness love will always light your sky. I had allowed the bright light of my pain to blind me to the many stars she gave me. It was like leaving the bustling noisy city and taking a trip to the country.

From now on I will never travel through my pain alone, I will always take her with me so that I may find my way to the country once again.

Thank you. I wrote this piece as a man but in the poem I am the woman. I feel this is what I gave to the woman to whom I dedicated my life. She betrayed me. So I wrote what I feel I was for her while at the same time expressing what I wish had been for me. I am so very happy it resonated with you, but it surprises me not that it does. I know this is what every living human being wants and needs from a mate.

      1. Now I’m definitely gonna read more of your poems

  3. really enjoy your prose/poem style!
