Demons

The pallid moonlight, falls on your face
Shining like a halo surrounding the
Angel of Death,
The midnight ember, blazes just right
Starting this fire within me, that flows
Through my veins, through the dozen
Knives that impale my heart.

It’s gloomy here, white-washed visages and white lies
Convenient and compelling
I’d tell you forgotten tales, of knights in
Shining armour and the river flowing southside
For what seems like an eternity
But somehow, I end up in the
Very same river instead, limp and lifeless
And there is nothing you can do to stop
This sinful sacrifice by the grim reaper.

The light in your eyes, seems to fade away
As you urge me to stop fighting,
To let this pain soothe me
The light that guided me, that paved a path
Turns to darkness , the gloomy horror
I ran away from all my life,
The darkness that turns into a devillish sadism
Treachery slowly descends,
And conquers everything I stood for.

It was once dazzling, I’d say
I was broken but beautiful
Just like a burning Notre Dam,
Healing  flesh and bone,
Banging on the rustic door of delusion
As I drown in frantic hopefulness
Pushed against my wits, at the brink of life
Fighting to come up for one gulp of that
Toxic air,
But somehow my inner demons
Always seem to consume me.

My name is Diya and writing poetry is the lens through which I explore the world. It is cathartic for me to put pen to paper, and I enjoy writing poetry focusing on mental health awareness. My favourite poets are Sylvia Plath, Maya Angelou and Edgar Allan Poe.
