Values

Growing up, fed to us with baby powder,
Were the lessons in morality,
Righteousness and purity.
Be true,
Be kind,
Love thy neighbour,
And expand your mind.
They taught us to see the stars as balls of fire,
And expected us to worship them as the spirits of those burning in hellfire.
They asked us to question the world,
Be curious and be creative,
But stay within limits,
And never try anything new.
Values,
Never challenge those already there,
Never make your own,
Let the existing one wrap around you like shackles,
And break your resolve,
Or be condemned
To forever feel wrong and alone.
