For They Are Not Dead

Yes, the breath of life has left them.
They are no longer alive like us.
But they continue to encourage us to really live.
For they are not dead,
Till we let them be.

Yes, their bodies have decayed.
They can no longer touch us.
But they continue to touch our lives.
For they are not dead,
Till we let them be.

Yes, their voice will never be heard again.
They can never be annoyed with us again.
But they continue to be the voice in our heads.
For they are not dead,
Till we let them be.

Yes, a lot about them will be forgotten.
They will not be able to remind us.
But we will never forget who they wanted us to be.
For they are not dead,
Till we let them be.

Yes, they are not really here.
They have long gone.
But they will always remain in our hearts.
For they are not dead,
Till we let them be.

Yes, they cannot love us anymore.
No one can the way they did.
But we can still love them.
For they are not dead,
Till we let them be.

It took me years to come to terms with who I always really was. Now I want the whole world to know it too. Currently, I am a struggling author, eagerly waiting for my first novel to be published. Death is a pivotal theme in it, so here goes a poem in its stead.
Attached below is its link.

  1. A lot in common Ms. Luna =)

  2. This is the most amazing work I’ve read today. I have every faith in you. Never give up.

    1. That really means a lot, Nicola. Thank you so much! 😀

  3. Having lost my mother January of 2017 and my father January of 2018, all seeming like yesterday, your poem resonates perfectly. I always wonder for most of us how long memories of us will last. I will remember my parents and my kids will, but much beyond that the direct memory is gone. What remains are photographs or best of all writings. We live through memory first, then through what of us is left behind. We have a lot of family journals and I have found enduring connections through those. It is up to us to remember for sure.
Best of luck on your first book!! My sister writes and so I know how crazy the process is.

    1. Thank you so much, Judy for your wishes as well as sharing. What I wrote is only a poem. What you wrote is the reality. They live on in the hearts of the living. So do your parents. ❤

  4. The thoughts you put into words got resonated well. I am glad you dropped by on my blog and liked my post which in turn led me to read your work. Thank you so much for initiating the connect. Hope to see you again on my blog. Happy day 🙂
