Afraid of the calm before no storm.
I see you have your fears,
Yet you refuse to shed a tear
Or even call for help.
I see you walking in silence,
Drawn towards all the noise
That you hope will help drown
All the voices inside your head,
Like you’re afraid of what you might tell yourself.
And I can’t help wondering what it is
That you keep telling yourself
When all the world offers is silence.
I wonder what it is
That you can’t save yourself from,
I wonder who it is
That you’re running away from,
I wonder what it is
That keeps you fighting on your own,
When I can never even hear
You call for help.
I wonder if you know
That I know this battle is yours,
You must win it on your own.
But I also wonder if you know
That you don’t have to do it all alone.
So if you choose, you can take my hand
So you don’t have to be alone.
So if you want, I’ll sing to you
So you won’t have to shut the voices out.
I wonder if you know
That I know it’s hard when you’re afraid,
And it’s difficult to forgive yourself.
So it’s okay to ask for help,
Because I’ve been afraid too.

Wow! Your poem truly has impact, especially the stanza “I wonder what it is you can’t save yourself from.” Makes me think of loved ones whom I tried to help over the years, but could never quite reach them. That sense of isolation and withdrawing is captured beautifully in your poem.
