Hangover

The dreadful morning after a binge.
Enough body aches to make me cringe.
Head pounding as though it’s been picked by a syringe.
Regretful mistakes and offensive sins.
My reflection is the devils twin.
Piecing together my night of boozy spins.
My humbleness unattractively fringed.
Repentance and repeats are mastered.
Intensive hangover from being plastered.
Alcohol controlling actor.
My self awareness completely shattered.
Just one of the many reasons I stay sober.
Avoiding the dreadful hangover.

I write poetry about alcohol addiction and sobriety. My goal is to create awareness on addiction to alcohol. It is one of the easiest substances to abuse. I want people who are struggling with alcohol addiction to know that they are not alone.
