Summer vacation – Croatia and Austria

Hi all,

As promised in my last post letting you know I am alive and well (kinda), I am here to share some vacation pics with you and tell you how everything went.

The first weekend of my vacation started with me babysitting my sister’s dog and my mother’s chickens. Yes, you read that correctly. They went to the seaside for a long weekend and I was out there, making sure the dog and the chickens survive. The dog’s name is Spikey and he was a good boy for the most part, except when he decided to attack a dog four times his size and then I had to carry him home while he had his little tantrum and barked in my ear.

On Monday we headed to Austria where we stayed until Thursday. The real party actually began here. We were driving across Slovenia and near Ljubljana our car broke down. We were on the highway and my boyfriend couldn’t shift gears, everything was stuck and we managed to get off the road and a lovely couple helped us push the car to the sidewalk and then we pushed it to a nearby parking. I am not going to lie, it was scary but luckily everyone was safe. We spent five hours waiting for the towing service and my boyfriend’s dad came, gave us another car and he went home with the towing service so we managed to continue our trip.

We finally made it to Austria. We were staying at Nassfeld and it was very nice. The hotel was great, although I was surprised that the staff didn’t really speak English. The hiking trails, in my humble and unexperienced opinion, were great for someone who wants to touch some grass and spend time in nature but doesn’t actually like to hike. There are trails that are more demanding but we didn’t go there. We spent two days hiking and this is how it went:

On Thursday we went to Porec, which is right here in Croatia in Istria. The plan was to stop at a lake in Italy but that would extend our trip and we couldn’t do that because I got car sick. I still struggle with motion sickness, it’s hell. Instead, we went to Trieste to visit Castello di Miramare which was wonderful

We made our way to Porec and we stayed there from Thursday to Wednesday. We booked an all-inclusive resort because we didn’t want to spend every day thinking what and where are we going to eat. The hotel was good but I did have some issues with the cleanliness. Fortunately, the staff was quick to accept any complaints and they fixed everything. The hotel is nicely positioned so we had many beaches nearby and we pretty much spent those days just going to the beach, eating, lounging around and we played some pool and miniature golf. Here are some pics

You know me, YOU KNOW ME, and you know I have to talk about the food now. So at both hotels we had the all-inclusive option when it came to food. In Austria, we never made it to lunch because we were hiking so we ate in restaurants but from what I gathered lunch was a soup and that’s not a meal. Breakfast and dinner were pretty weak in my opinion, a very small selection but I assume it’s because the place is usually a ski resort so this is outside of their “season”. All in all, it was fine.

When it comes to Porec, I loved the food. There was so much effort put into it, there was a very big selection every day and I tried as much as I could. They also brought a band one evening to play in the restaurant, which was very nice, and they also had a cheese taste testing which I am all for. Here are some pics to spark up your appetite

That’s pretty much it. We came back on Wednesday, I rested a bit on Thursday and then on Friday I went to my boyfriends so we can go and attend the wedding we were invited to on Saturday. I was dead tired on Sunday and then it was back to work.

This was the summer vacation we took the most advantage off and even though we got off on a rocky start, it all turned out well and we had a great time.

Where was your vacation this year?

Love,
Luna
