Not feeling festive

I am really trying to get into the Christmas spirit and it’s not working. It especially didn’t work yesterday. I went to the Christmas Market here in Zagreb which, might I add, was the best Christmas Market in Europe for a few years. This thing I saw yesterday was disappointing.

For the love of Santa Clause, it was just sad. The city is poorly decorated, it’s not even a little bit creative as it used to be and there’s more emphasis on putting as many little stands with food and drinks than there is on actually having nice decorations and a festive atmosphere. Yes, I love to eat and drink, I am a foodie, but that is not all Christmas Markets are about.

I also loved the choice of music. It was very festive. Eminem was on the main square and on another one they were playing “Let’s talk about sex”. Yes, fun music, I am a big fan of Eminem, but what.the.fuck.

I didn’t get to visit everything, there was one of the town squares where I didn’t go yet and I honestly don’t know if I will. It just doesn’t feel special anymore.

According to what I’ve heard from a lot of people, the place to be is Budapest now. For some reason, everyone I know is going there. I was getting my eyebrows done yesterday and even my brow girl said she was going to Budapest. My big wish was always to go to Wien to see their Christmas Market, but maybe next year!

So I am trying to catch a bit of the festive atmosphere but it keeps evading me. Maybe I should watch the Grinch? Or maybe I will feel festive when I get home and my mom tries to get me to eat something every 5 minutes? We shall see.

Have you been to some of them, do you have them in your town?

Love,
Luna
