From It’s like

I’ll just sit in this cloud of smoke like I do every
month until I find the strength to smile and say
that everything is just fine. I’ll poison my blood
in hopes that the nicotine will poison what’s living inside.
A cigarette between my lips will keep my mouth shut.

It’s like they’ll laugh at me, it’s like they’ll
tell me it’s all in my head, it’s like they’ll talk
behind my back all over again, it’s like they won’t
understand again, it’s like they’ll make me feel worse,
it’s like they just won’t hear the words I want to say.

From Shy love

Come on shy love, don’t look away.
A few hidden looks won’t get us
anywhere. Wouldn’t it be better
if you sat next to me and told me your
name? God knows where this could lead,
maybe it will be a true romance.

Poem #47

You come back into my life in waves.
You stay just enough to get sand all over
me and it takes me months to wash it
off my body and out of my hair.
You know how to invade my life for a
second and linger for days.
I don’t know what’s more stupid –
you torturing me like that or me hoping
every time that you’ll stay.

From The newborn wolf

Everything caught fire as she ripped pieces of paper
throwing them to the side. Every verse and every line
seemed to get her to a breaking point instead of
getting her up from the ground.

The wolves howled louder and stronger than before
just to let her know that if she runs away on all fours,
she won’t be alone. She knew she would never be tamed
because the wild instincts only grew stronger in her veins.

Poem #27

I will just watch them bark, trying to get a taste of me.
I will listen to them claiming they own some part of me.
I will nod quietly to their statements about making me.
I am not yours to claim, to own or to make.

Finally, I’ve adjusted this crown on my head.
You are pawns, I am the queen.
All of you miserable boys combined can’t do what I’m capable of.
The fear is gone, the need is extinguished.
Come at me little boy, you won’t win this.
