Poem #67

All of this search for someone to fill
this empty space you left besides me made
me realize one thing clearly.
If I find someone like you, I will end up in
the same place looking for another strike
to mess with my heart and sheets.
I should start looking for someone to love me
insanely and passionately the way I loved you.

Poem #42

I came back to the crime scene. The crowd, the traffic, everything was the same. It hit me hard as it did the first time. I saw the bus that had the name of your city on it. My mind lost control over my body. I got on the bus and started scanning the places, everyone’s faces had something yours but you… Oh you were nowhere to be found.

– Miss what are you looking for?
– Something I lost here a long time ago.
– Why are you looking for it now?
– That’s the thing with memories. You never know when are they going to strike.

I got off the bus and sat on the station for a while thinking how this was the closest I’ll ever get to you and your town.

Poem 40

Lies are like a blindfold.
They forbid us from seeing the
truth, from walking to light and love.
We are just there roaming in
the dark for as long as it takes
to find the exit sign
That’s why the night brings out
the worst in people. It invites our
demons out to play but in the
night we know that sunrise will
come again and with lies we
never know if we’ll find the exit sign.

Poem #34

I decided to stop writing about you a bunch of times already. I never went through with my decision because I was just so scared that in the absence of you in my mind no one else will be good enough to spark this power that makes me pick up a pen and write. You were always more than just my love.

Poem #29

There are so many hours in a day but
they will never be enough for me to get
enough of you. I decided to throw the phones
and take the batteries out of the clock, hoping
it would make the world stop turning just for us.

Poem #26

Why do you think I stopped loving you?
I never loved you to begin with.
I loved the pretty portrait you sold me, I loved
the lies you used like paint to cover my eyes,
I loved the way you made me feel at night,
I loved the sweet words that flew in my ears like birds.
Once your true self was revealed the fantasy was
shattered into a million pieces and the explosion
took away the love I had for someone you pretended to be.

Poem #23

It was easy getting naked in front of you
letting you run your hands all over me.
But my soul, I left her concealed like a delicate
flower inside my chest. She’s been through
enough, she needs to rest. As for this sculpture
you have in your bed, it’s just body parts
nothing else. You won’t own me, you won’t
have me until my soul is naked in that bed as well.
