(A true story heard on the radio
when I was first learning to write)
A five year-old was diagnosed
with terminal cancer
The adults wept and wailed
The child could not understand
Why are you weeping and wailing?
The adults could not understand
Why are you not afraid?
Because I am going to a place
I’ve never been before
I’m excited
