London, baby!

A girl weekend trip is something you just have to do sometimes! I went to London with my friends for the weekend and if we take out the rain and general bad weather, it was great.

We flew from Zagreb on Friday evening and came back on Sunday evening. The flight was Ryanair, of course, bless their affordable heart. We stayed in a youth hostel in London and this was my first time staying in a hostel. At first it felt like a prison because we had six beds in the room (there were five of us) and they were like two sets of bunk beds. It felt a bit claustrophobic in there, but we were so exhausted from our trip the first night that I slept like a baby there. We took the ensuite option because I will not be sharing a bathroom with people I do not know.

On Saturday it was time to do around 30 000 steps before noon. We also went to the underground and rode in the famous double decker which was a fun experience, we don’t have them here in Croatia. The trip was a first time trip for three of us and we mostly visited the famous sights and what we really wanted. We went to see the Buckingham Palace, which I found to be a little bit underwhelming. Like, if I were a member of the royal family, I would want a building that looks more like the Westminster building. We saw Big Ben, went to the Natural History Museum (which I found underwhelming and loud), visited a British pub just to see what the vibes were and the vibes were great.

We also went to Nandos, I heard a lot about it on social media and I think it’s overhyped. I found the food to be a bit bland there. The one thing I will give props to when it comes to food is that they really are careful when it comes to allergies and dietary requirements. I was diagnosed with lactose intolerance this year and I have IBS, so it was really nice for me to be able to actually talk to servers about this or get an overview of what exactly each food contains. On the topic of food, I really liked Pret a Manger where I got the best dairy-free cookie I ever had. Loved that place!

We also went to the Archive of Stolen Goods, also known as The British Museum, and there we were very constricted with time because we had to get to Stansted so we basically made a list of things we really wanted to see instead of going around the whole museum.

All in all, it was a lovely trip. I would like to visit London again to see more of it, two days are not enough so hopefully one day I will be back. Until then, here are some pics:

  1. Glad to see you made it to London, Luna – your photos do it proud. I’m fortunate in living less than an hour out near the end of the Metropolatian tube line – my next trip in is for the Faber Christmas Market the week aftr next – all things books and talks – this year with a focus on poetry. All the best. Eric.
