So guys I need some advice from you. Since I quit my studying of Italian and Spanish at the University I have been trying my best to keep in touch with the languages. Learning a foreign language is like growing a new muscle and you have to practice it if you want it to stay in shape.
I need all of you from the Spanish, Italian and Portuguese speaking countries to give me some recommendations on books and movies and TV shows I should read/watch. If you also speak those languages and have some recommendations just write them down, it will be so helpful to me.
I have been reading one book in Italian from Mauro Corona, I have been listening to a whole bunch of Spanish music and I have been watching a Portuguese TV show on Youtube but I need some more and honestly I need something interesting and contemporary and who better to help me than you guys!

Anything and everything by Ana Paula Maia. Her stories are raw, visceral, powerful, and on top of being written in Portuguese (my mother tongue!) they have also been translated into Italian, so you can take your pick in regards to language.

One of my favourite books is by a Portuguese author, Paulo Coelho. He wrote the Alchemist, The Valkyries, The Fifth Mountain, the Witch of Portobello and many more.
I actually read all of his books in Croatia but I never remembered to read them in Portuguese! Thank you so, so much for this comment 😀

The best way to learn a language is to live in a place that speaks the language but Netflix has wonderful contemporary movies with the option of subtitles. Practice, practice, practice.

I would highly recommend “100 Years of Solitude” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, of of course “Love the Time of Cholera,” if you haven’t read them already.
After that–“Don Quixote,” Miguel de Cervantes. I know of very few people who have actually read that book, considered to be the first novel ever written, I believe it was in the 15th century. It’s a joyful book . I’ve read it three times.
After that, idk–anything by Melville.
Yes, Marquez is wonderful. I love listening to Spanish-speaking music too. Moenia and Zoe especially stand out.
