The Reader

Hannah cannot read
the books that Michael can.
She cannot write
and needs a man.

She leaves without goodbye
and tears him apart.
They meet at the trial
and resolve the past.

Despite her innocence,
Hannah pleads guilty.
Is there any difference?
Life is a prison without literacy.

Esmeralda Balita is a living paradox.
