Poem #8

Let me be young. Let me stay on the ground
in a park with a bottle by my side, counting
the stars with my friends by my side.

Let me be young. Let me not worry about
what the world wants me to worry about.
Let me smile at strangers out of kindness
and wink to cute bartenders.

Let me be young. Let me love like a child,
as if it were the last thing that matters in life.
Let me be free to kiss him as if it were only him and I.

Let me be free. Let me speak my mind and
stand my ground. Let me be passionate enough
to take a leap of faith. Let me be young enough not to care.
