The Poetry Bar

The monotony of the day
Searching for another way
Living in this rusty cage
In the dust of my foolish rage

I wonder where I came from
Why it’s left me feeling numb
Why I’m not able to run free
And be the person I want to be

Thoughts roll through my head
And pull at the knot of my thread
Waiting for a ship lost in the sea
Wondering what will become of me

I sit alone and rattle my chain
It helps keep me alive and sane
Nothing to do but count the hours
Amid petals from wilted flowers.

My name is Jason S. Sullivan. I’m a writer / poet from Arlington, Texas. Check out my other poetry at
