Fairytale Ending

The last petal fell
where she once stood

breaking as
it hit the frozen ground

they were all so certain
that she would be the one

but the colour of the years
had bled together
and his spirit grew dark
in its despair

would things have been different
if he truly was a beast
and kept her behind glass like the rose?

even he could not be so cruel

so as he blew out the candles
and the clock grew quiet
he looked at the mirror in his hand
as the winter chill took hold
and cast his world in darkness
