Poem #266

The way this liquid smashes around
in the bottle as I play around with it
makes me remember the waves crashing against
the shore back in the day when everything
was easier than I thought it was.

The ways in which I ran away from everything
are catching up with me now.
I couldn’t hold on to anything or anyone
and now I can’t even hold my liquor down.

I stopped reminiscing about the sea
when the bottom of the bottle came very close to me.
My soul is in my throat, I lost all control.
Where do I go from here?
