Where’s the innovation?

Daily writing prompt
What movies or TV series have you watched more than 5 times?

When it comes to TV shows, I think that I’ve never watched a whole show more than 2-3 times. I think I’ve rewatched Friends, Shadow and Bone, Gossip Girl, Teen Wolf, The Vampire Diaries. Except Shadow and Bone, all these shows were something I loved growing up and then I rewatched it a few years after the last season. Friends are more of a classic, but it doesn’t age well, I would say the same for The Vampire Diaries. I remember I had pics of Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) on my high school locker.

I was obsessed with Gossip Girl in high school, but when I rewatched it as an adult and realized that past season 1, it’s really not that good. I watched Teen Wolf because of Stiles. Nothing else. Season 3 was amazing, but my main reason for watching Teen Wolf will always be Stiles. As you can see, I grew up in the “supernatural” era of teen television.

When it comes to movies, I have rewatched all Harry Potter movies more than 5 times. I am talking only about the main 8 movies, not that trainwreck that they released afterwards. I was a very big Potter fan as a kid, re-read all the books several times and rewatched the movies. I cannot say for sure, but I would bet that I’ve watched Christmas classics more than five times as well, such as Home Alone and The Grinch.

This list is pretty much all stuff that was made way back when or it was part of some craze, such as the supernatural shows. Today, I don’t really get into shows as much as I did before because a lot of them are bad or get cancelled after one season even if they are good just because they didn’t hit some view threshold. Streaming is killing original shows and it’s also killing 22 episodes per season shows. Give me episodes that contribute nothing to the plot. Slow down the story, make me wait for a week for a new episode!

If we shift the conversation over to movies, I think that a lot of movies suck too much considering how much money was put into them. How are you going to have a budget of hundreds of millions of dollars and suck? I am also fed up with prequels, sequels, reimaginations etc. Just make an original show. Throw something at the damn wall to see if it sticks. Where is the risk people?

  1. Wonderful ♥️

  2. It seems to me that film making has gone from script writing and acting to special effects, especially for films in the horror/sci fi realm. So sad!

  3. I’ve watched Shadow and Bone and I liked it. My favourite sit com is Seinfeld, and I’ve watched a lot of Star Trek as a kid and Star Wars as well. This new thing they’re doing to Star Trek and Star Wars now is mostly bad, but there are some good series made. I love Lord of the rings as well.
