Can’t help it

What’s the first impression you want to give people?

Honestly, anything than the impression I give off (according to people). I have had too many people, who later became my good friends, tell me that they thought I was a horrible bitch when they first saw me. I have, what the kids call, a resting bitch face. Pair that up with the fact that I come from “Why are you smiling, nothing if funny, did you go insane” household and you get a recipe for disaster.

I think that my general “don’t mess with me” aura has saved me plenty of times in life because I’ve gotten the same feedback from men. My favorite one was a guy yelling after me that I, apparently, “walk like I’ve liberated Zagreb”, whatever the hell that’s supposed to mean.

Sometimes I do wish I looked more approachable and that people don’t get a bad vibe from me from the start, but on the other hand I don’t feel like constantly thinking about what my face looks like to other people. If you need people to constantly smile and look agreeable so that you wouldn’t be threatened by them, that sounds like a you problem.

The impression, or rather something I would personally like to change about myself, is the fact that I am a bit introverted when people meet me. I have a tendency to talk very little until I get comfortable around people and sometimes some might perceive that as me not being interested in hanging out with them when it’s often the opposite. It is something I try to work on, but at the end of the day people are different and maybe it’s all about finding your people instead of trying to fit in.
