Love is kind, Life is unfair

If I meet you in one hundred years, will we wish each other well?
Should I aim for heaven or should we plan to meet in hell?
You taught me a hard lesson and it’s one that now I wear
Love for us can be kind, but life can be unfair
I am sorry I did not know how to love, when we had the chance
I am sorry I did not know you then, when you bowed out of life’s dance
But I know too late that what we had so brief was also truly rare
Love for us was kind, but life was heartbreakingly unfair

My name is Evie H. I am from Northern Ireland, and I am an unpublished poet. I write poetry to try to process the complicated nature of life. I try to use humour in poetry because I often find if you are not laughing about life, you are crying. I love a broad range of poets but particularly Pam Ayres and John Cooper Clarke.
