Poem #323

If your love has run its course
don’t stay out of habit.
If there’s nothing more you want to give
don’t share scraps off of your table.
If there’s nothing more you want to get
don’t accept a gift you want to exchange
for a better one.

The pain, the emptiness are just moments
compared to a lifetime of pretend happiness.
We haven’t been moving forward in a while,
we’ve been running in place.

  1. There is no point in lingering when the dust has settled and it’s clearly time to move on.
