What makes you feel nostalgic?

This is a good one to finish off the year. Nostalgia is a funny little thing because you are happy and sad, all at the same time and there is this sense of joyful longing for some experiences.

I think that things that provoke nostalgia for me are shows, music and food. I link the Harry Potter books and franchise to my childhood. My early years were not the best and there isn’t much to be nostalgic about, but Harry Potter is definitely something that makes me nostalgic for my childhood. I think that a lot of people have this feeling when it comes to stuff like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Percy Jackson etc., because we wish we could experience it all for the first time.

Media has become very soulless and studios are only interested in making a profit so there isn’t a lot of shows and books that feel the way that these older ones felt because there is just so much stuff coming out, so many blockbusters and a lot of us wish they could go experience that sense of wonder and excitement we once had.

Somewhere around the end of my elementary school years and a bit into my high school, I was very obsessed with Rebelde. It used to be my favorite show, I had their posters in my room, I listened to their music (still do sometimes). I was a huge fan. For those of you who don’t know, it was a Mexican show about a group of kids in a private school who start their own band and we keep up with them and their school and family drama. Despite being my favorite show, it’s the only one I have never rewatched. Probably because it has 440 episodes.

Pancakes with Kras Express is my biggest nostalgia food because my grandmother used to make them for me every morning when I would stay with her. It’s honestly a core memory for me. Whenever my father would fall into his drunk episodes, mum would ship me off to grandma’s and I would always come back a bit chubby because she loved to feed me. I was a very, very skinny child which is considered a sin in my family.

This one is a bit weird because I don’t know exactly what it is but there is a type of air freshener that exist and I don’t know which brand it was but whenever I smell it, I am instantly reminded of my university years because my apartment used to smell like it. I wish I could just figure out which one it is because I would buy a lifetime supply.

These are all nostalgia triggers that come to mind right now, there are many more but I just cannot think of them now.
