The most important invention in your lifetime is…
I was born in 1996 and I think that I grew up in a world of rapid change and advancement. There’s something new and groundbreaking every year or two and I think it’s difficult to pick just one invention and call it the most important.
But, here’s my problem with all of this. Throughout history we can see how progress and new inventions were often used as means of oppression and control. The hierarchy was always the same – the rich got richer on the backs of the poor and we always had some “inspirational stories” of people pulling themselves up by their bootstraps which were exceptions to the general rule and were used to tell those in unfavorable positions that their life is their own fault without taking a look at the broader social and political circumstances that lead to all of this.
Now, this problem is on fucking steroids and my question is – What’s the price? Are all of these inventions and advancements actually making our life easier or destroying nature and the fabric of society? How far will we push it and how far can we push it before we reach a breaking point?
Apologies if I killed your good vibes with this post.
Love,
Luna
Don’t forget that my first novel is available on Amazon: Little Rebellion
Also you can get my poetry books: Rehab and Identity crisis
Very well put, and unfortunately, I think we all know the answer; certainly, our planet does…; -)
Can’t kill vibes that are alreadly in a bad place.
I think the most important invention if my lifetime will turn out to be A.I. because it will allow humanity to retire and take it easy. Whether we are living our best lives or turning into lumps watching screens all day, whether we’re living in a paradise or underground hiding from ecological devastation, is the open question. I also think social media is an intellectual dead end, but here I am, posting away.
