Poem #365

Had I loved you just a little bit less
maybe I would have less sleepless nights
and would look younger now.

Had I loved you just a little bit less
maybe I wouldn’t be one of those
who know the feeling of exquisite pain.

Had I loved you just a little bit less
maybe the river of tears
wouldn’t have suffocated my will to live.

Had I loved you just a little bit less
maybe the world would stop turning
and the oceans would dry out
and there would be eternal winter.

Maybe we were that important,
that crucial for the web of life
that we had to collide and we
had to be ripped apart.

And just maybe I would like to believe
all of that because I want there to be a
cosmic reason for which we had to go
through this hell without the promise
of the light at the end of the tunnel.

Maybe, I need an unbelievable explanation
to make sense out of all this suffering
because otherwise I will have to accept
that just love is not good enough.

Goodness, this struck me in a strange way. As always, impressive work – delightful and harrowing.
