Back to reading

I dedicated last December and the first few weeks of this year to writing my own book Little Rebellion and I had to adjust my daily schedule to fit in some time for it. One thing that I unfortunately had to cut out temporarily was reading. I wasn’t going to the library to borrow new books and I also never buy them because I live in a rented apartment and really do not need to stash more stuff here.

Ever since my novel has been done, I have been dealing with some internal struggles and self-criticism that I talked about in our Coffee Date, but I also felt like something was missing. I had this daily ritual of getting everything done and then sitting down with my laptop to hang out with Eve and Nox and go to Stanhill for a few hours and then one day it was just gone. There was an emptiness I felt and since I am not still ready to start the second part of The Stanhill Series, I decided it was time to visit the library.

I forgot how nice libraries smell. Luckily, I have one just a few steps from my apartment and it’s a blessing. I thought I would go straight back into reading crime novels and thrillers, but I stopped next to the shelf with Leigh Bardugo’s books. She wrote the books upon which Shadow and Bone on Netflix was based and you know how much I loved the books and the show. I did not read her book Ninth House which is a fantasy novel that falls outside the scope of the Grishaverse and Six of Crows. I got the book yesterday and I already read more than half of it. I also got Six of Crows duology because I just feel like revisiting it. It’s like a “safe read” when it comes to books because I know I will like it and I know it won’t disappoint and sometimes you need your “safe read”.

I missed reading so, so much and I finally feel like that little void that was left after finishing Little Rebellion isn’t that deep anymore.

I know that reading will not replace writing for me, but it’s a temporary band aid until I feel ready to dive back into the world I created and get back to my own characters.

Tomorrow it’s supposed to rain, so guess twice what I’ll be doing?

Love,
Luna

Don’t forget that my first novel is available on Amazon: Little Rebellion
