I’ve done a month of belly dancing and I will be kicking it up to 2 times a week from now on because I need the practice. My problem is that I can do the steps in isolation but when I have to combine it in a choreography, I get lost. In the current one, I know exactly when I will lose the plot because there is one step that always confuses me.
I have an issue where I don’t really distinguish between left and right as fast as other people. I know which side is which, it just takes a bit more time for me and that is a problem with dancing because in my head I go “kick right, cross over, put weight to left…” but I cannot keep up with my own instructions because it takes time for me to pick which is left and which is right. It’s actually really embarrassing for me, especially if I have to tell someone about it. And no, I do not know why this happens. The only explanation I have is the fact that I was born left handed but my family made me switch to right hand and that might have messed me up a bit.
Hopefully, dancing will help out with this problem. I think that I just need to build some muscle memory. This is the first choreography that I’ve done and I am satisfied with my progress. Unfortunately, we will have a long extended break during the summer, but I plan to continue practicing at home so I am ready when we go back to class.
Have any of you taken dance class and how did it go for you?
Love,
Luna

I’ve tried doing dance classes, but it never works out well. I love to dance and I think I’m OK at it but doing sequence steps always makes me feel like I’m just a little out of sync 🙂 belly dancing sounds amazing though.
I find aerobics classes challenging.. so something choreographed?…. Noooo
