What jobs have you had?
I started, kind of, working while in high school. I already started blogging then but I had a blog in Croatian and on the side I did translations for a page online. I was heavily exploited then but I didn’t know it and the money came in handy.
My first real job was as a student working at Zara. I hated working on the floor so much. My favorite part was actually being sent to the back where I just had to find clothes that had to go out on the floor. I have been through some shit with the clients there. My personal favorite where the ones who pretended like they were in Chanel and not Zara. The experience there convinced me that retail workers should have the legal right and moral obligation to smack at least one customer across the face without facing any repercussions.
After that I had a job as a front desk worker in a small hotel. It was a summer job and it was a shitshow. I ended up being the front desk worker, a waitress and whatever the hell I had to be. We were living in horrible conditions and were absolutely not paid enough for the time we spent working. Today, hotels and bars and other establishments on the Adriatic coast in Croatia are struggling to find workers and I am kind of glad that they are going through this because a lot of them treated workers like cattle. They had this coming.
I had a few more waitressing jobs as a student and I worked another summer in a restaurant, which was better than my first summer job. The conditions were absolutely better as was the pay. When I left uni, I was still waitressing for 6 months until I figured stuff out.
I got my job as a call center agent and then I still had plans of going back to school when I figure out what to do for grad school but covid came and I abandoned all plans. I got a promotion at work and now I work in project management which I actually see as a potential long-term career for myself.
That’s pretty much it for my work experience. A lot of coffee making and now a desk job. What I would actually like to do is write for a living and maybe it comes true one day!
