It’s pretty obvious

What are you passionate about?

I had a talk with my therapist recently about my future and what I want. I was quickly brought to the conclusion that I look at a lot of things in life through the ”how will this make me money” glasses. I fell into the general loss of hobbies plaguing my generation because everything today has to somehow be monetized (for obvious reasons, I gesture vaguely at the world).

I had more passion for my hobbies when I was younger and I had several, not only hobbies, but also things I wanted to try or was drawn too. That was my era of seeking out new experiences or I would simply fall under the influence of the latest trends but it was interesting. The only thing that stuck with me through my whole life has, undoubtedly, been writing. As soon as I learned my letters and the art of reading, I was overwhelmed by the need to write down what I think and come up with stories.

Today, it’s interesting to me how my entrance into the world of writing was through the means of short stories and not poetry. I remember that when I was a teenager, I had like a FB page where I would anonymously post my short stories and it had a decent number of followers back then. No one, and I mean no one, from my life knew about it. It was my little secret.

Even to this day, I still keep my writing somewhat private. I rarely speak to anyone about the fact that I am writing. When I published Little Rebellion, I barely told anyone outside of this blog. It’s like I exist in duality – there’s Ana, the girl that has friends, a boyfriend, a job and bills and Luna who is just an aspiring author and doesn’t exist outside of that box. I think that the fact I’ve always kept it hidden from my circle has definitely hindered my writing, but on the other hand it allowed me to always see it as something entirely my own, that I never had to explain to anyone and I successfully avoided seeing it as something that has to be monetized.

I do sell my books on Amazon, but the prices are very low and after taxes I am left with peanuts and I don’t care about it. My goal was always to just put it out into the world, shoot my shot, throw stuff at the wall to see what sticks. It is a bit challenging for me to handle bad feedback and negative reviews, but going through it and learning to deal with it has allowed me to grow as a person.

So, writing. My passion is writing. I often fall of the wagon, but it’s the only wagon I always climb back into.

Love,
Luna

  1. Somehow most writers like to remain anonymous, even famous writers like George Elliot. Maybe that’s how we keep ourselves protected from critique. Best of luck with your passion, whatever it may be.
