Poem #298

girls looking at their bodies,
seeing misplaced shapes
boys scared to show any emotions,
we are falling from grace

we can tweak you, we can fix you,
we can make you look like them
we have plastic surgery for the poor
it’s called social media filters

it’s all designed to make you hate yourself.
the system is set for you to lose even when you win
you cannot escape it,
you cannot negate it
it’s everywhere you look,
you might as well embrace it.

you don’t know what colors are
how to live a genuine moment,
it’s all a blink, a flash, a fleeting emotion
captured on a gallery of our demise

our insides are out, we are bleeding in public
but that is alright because what is reality
if not seen through a screen
no one will post rivers of blood to their feed
