The Scarlet Comforter

A blanket filled with feather down
and memories beneath it

A cover for the world we found
but lost before we reached it

A banquet for our hungry hearts
we secretly would spread

Our bodies on the comforter
that lays upon the bed

Once we wrapped ourselves together
now we lie alone

No more emails, no more words
no calls upon the phone

Love had run its course and then
we plowed into a wall

Nothing left to do but bail
when everything had stalled

Now at night i wrap myself
the blanket scarlet red

to resurrect the ecstasy
by which our hearts were fed ~

  1. even before I read “aspiring musician/poet” I thought this would be so impactful at a poetry slam or spoken word. such great internal rhyme and meter, keep writing! God bless 🙂

    1. Thank you! I was thinking this morning how so much modern published poetry lacks rhyme and meter.. and though i find great poems in that genre.. i must be old fashioned. 🙂

  2. Wow it’s great!
