A little shut eye

What do you love now, that you hated when you were younger?

I couldn’t nap as a child. My family had this thing where they would take a nap after Sunday lunch and I was awake, roaming the house silently like a Victorian ghost because I could sleep during the day. Not just on Sundays, in general I couldn’t sleep during the day. If the sun was out, I was up.

But now… Now, things have changed. I enjoy a little power nap during the weekend when I put a 100 tasks on my to-do list. I am no longer young and careless, I have a job now and I deserve a little break on my breaks during the weekend. When I was little, it would mess up my sleeping at night, but not now because I haven’t had enough sleep at night since I was 7.

One thing that I also enjoy now that I am approaching my old age (will be 30 soon) is not having plans to go anywhere during the weekend. Don’t get me wrong, I do have a pretty active life which makes it all the nicer when I know that a weekend when I have absolutely nothing planned is approaching. Yes, let me be at home and do nothing. I will cook, clean, do 10 rounds of laundry, go grocery shopping and rot on TikTok, it is going to be the best!

Those two would be, according to me, two things I learned how to enjoy since I got older. If I had to add a third one, it would be the fact that I started to prefer colder months of the year over summer and yes, it is connected to the current heat wave.

Love,
Luna

The second part of The Stanhill Series is out and you can get it on Amazon: Beneath The Mask.
If you haven’t moved to Stanhill yet, you can get the first novel on Amazon as well: Little Rebellion

  1. Oh no Luna. Is 30 officially approaching old age? 😂 As for sleep, it’s a blessing for those who can, especially the talented ones who can do it with their eyes wide open 😅

    1. I will officially be entering my 30ies on 16 July and honestly, it seems to me that 30 is 20 but with money 😂

      1. I hope I can remember the date to wish you on your birthday, I’ll count 29 candles, just in-case 😂😂 you have a “joey-moment” from F.R.I.E.N.D.S 😂😂😂

  2. What a delightfully relatable read, Luna! You have such a witty way of framing adulthood—the “Victorian ghost” roaming the house had me chuckling. That transition from “sun’s out, eyes open” to cherishing a power nap like it’s a sacred ritual is such a universal marker of growing up (and yes, 30 is not old, it’s just the age where you finally stop apologizing for needing rest).

And the weekend with zero plans? Absolute perfection. People don’t realize that “doing nothing” actually means conquering 10 loads of laundry, meal prep, and a deep-dive TikTok scroll—that’s not nothing, that’s productive self-care.

Embrace the colder months and that nap; you’ve earned every single peaceful minute. Thanks for the laugh and the validation that the best part of adulting is finally giving ourselves permission to just be. Enjoy your quiet weekend! 🛋️
