What’s something you used to worry about but don’t anymore?
I dont’ care about turning 30. I did it last month and guess what – nothing happened. I was always scared about that particular birthday because it’s supposed to be some type of a milestone and the period “when things change”. I spent my 30 birthday shaking ass at a Bad Bunny concert.
I think that this whole fear of turning 30, especially for women, is very much rooted in patriarchy and I refuse to live by those rules. I currently have no desire to build a family, throw a wedding or have children and I am sick and tired of people asking about it. I don’t want to do it. I always leave space for the fact that my opinion might change with time but that will again be my choice and I will not be pressured into making it just because I reached a certain age.
Also, fuck beauty standards. I think that, again women specifically, are bombarded with this idea that we will “expire” or not be as attractive anymore and my question is why am I being compared to girls 10 years younger than me, or worse, to teenagers? Why should a woman in her thirties even aspire to look like she did when she was 20 or 16? Yes, this idea comes from a very specific subsection of the internet that has been annoyingly loud in the past few years, but these standards are rooted in how the media and the world portray women who do the natural thing of aging.
Another thing about turning 30 is that you are supposed to have your life figured out and you need to be “settled”. Firstly, we live in a world where most people my age and younger feel like they are overspending if they buy the basic necessities. The world is burning (in some places literally) at the hands of absolute fucking losers. That idea of being settled by the time you are 30 was made for an era where the concept of future was something that looked bright and positive.
Anyway, I turned 30. It wasn’t scary and I stopped worrying about it a long time ago. May I live to see a 100 on a birthday cake. Cheers.
The second part of The Stanhill Series is out and you can get it on Amazon: Beneath The Mask.
If you haven’t moved to Stanhill yet, you can get the first novel on Amazon as well: Little Rebellion
I don’t worry about those things either; I turned 70 this year and life’s still great. Live the way you want to. 🙂
