Behind Closed Eyes

I shut my eyes, but there is nowhere to go,
Behind the Stygian veil, my dreams are hollow,
Vacant like my happiness has been lately
Because I can’t function properly, my thoughts are a mass of
glaring error messages,
My soul is left to wander through the mists of exhaustion
The glistening golden desert of my subconscious Sahara
Is a charcoal dust reflecting trapped starlight from my heart now
Inside the waves of my mind ticking over in silence
This insomnia mocks me at every turn,
Twisting and bending my thoughts,
Bruising my eyes from blue to purple
Whilst draining my skin
Of its creamy and pink rosiness
Feeling tired has become the norm.
I detest this situation; do I deserve this?
I don’t know, but I implore God to let me dream,
Because no fluffy mattress or herbal tincture will save me
Only patience or divine intervention will heal
what is keeping me away from my sleep.
