When she saw the pedestrian bridge leading to The Slums, she finally felt like she could breathe. It was home. Her mind was on autopilot and all she wanted to do was cross the river and step foot on her territory. She ran as fast as she could and all she could hear were the raindrops and the water splashing under her feet. Nox didn’t go after her. He stayed in the rain and watched the bridge that now seemed like a divide between two worlds. One in which he held her close to him and finally felt a shred of happiness and one in which she was as far away from him as possible. For the first time in years, a single tear rolled down his face. He rubbed the tattoo of the bridge on his hand and stood there until Eve disappeared from his sight.
